Broadcaster, author and bowel cancer awareness advocate Deborah James launches fund to support cancer research and personalised medicine for patients
Deborah James, AKA BowelBabe, has launched an incredible fund to raise money for clinical trials, research into personalised medicine for cancer patients and further campaigns to raise awareness of bowel cancer.
The initial target for her BowelBabe Fund was set at £250,000 and less than 24 hours after its launch, over £1 million has been raised and donations continue to flood in thanks to Deborah’s message and commitment to the mission of raising awareness of bowel cancer and support for those diagnosed with it.
Deborah was diagnosed with bowel cancer in 2016. Over the past five years, she’s been a passionate and public advocate for raising awareness of this type of cancer, busting myths and encouraging people to get checked and seek help if they are experiencing issues. In her own words, she’s committed to ‘breaking the poo taboo’.
Deborah is a co-host of the chart-topping and highly acclaimed You, Me and the Big C podcast, has written F*** You Cancer, an invaluable guide to life post diagnosis and she also writes a regular column for The Sun. She’s appeared on a large number of TV and radio programmes and has been a major contributor to high profile awareness campaigns, as well as sharing the highs and lows of her personal journey (plus her great style and dancing) via her Instagram account.
The launch of the Bowelbabe Fund was announced on 9 May, in a post from Deborah herself. In this, she also shared that she has moved to hospice at home care and is spending time with her family.
Everyone at team Happiful is sending Deborah, her family and friends our love and thoughts and we’re raising a glass to Deborah’s incredible ongoing work.
We’ve shared Deborah’s post below so that you can read her own words and wishes and make a donation if you’re able to.
